Local Development Plans

North Somerset Council have issued a consultation document entitled 'Core Strategy' which sets out a 'long term vision from now until 2026' for North Somerset including the provision of 9000 new homes.

The document outlines four different scenarios, with maps, for such development and one in particular includes Flax Bourton. Residents have until the 30th November to submit their comments to North Somerset and the Parish Council encourages you to do this. We believe the document will remain on view at Nailsea Library.

Update November 2008 - Following consultation over the last six months with councillors, developers, community groups and other interested parties a preferred outline of the area for development was established. The relevant 'sketch' can be seen on the North Somerset Council website.

This 'sketch' does not include Flax Bourton but it should be emphasised that no firm decision has been taken yet by the Government for the South West. Flax Bourton Parish Council's main submissions to the consultation process have been:

* The available space within the Bristol City boundaries should be developed first before there is 'overspill' into North Somerset.

* The specific infrastructure requirements and their funding source should be identified and incorporated in any final Plan.

Further consultation is due in the early part of next year (2009).
